Finding high quality whey protein powders can be quite difficult these days. More often than not, they contain potentially harmful ingredients, artificial sweeteners, colors and flavors. The source and processing techniques also play a major role in the quality and efficacy of the whey protein, as many processing techniques destroy much of the nutritional value.
Benefits of a High Quality Whey Protein
Whey protein contains a huge range of essential amino acids which are highly bioavailable. Studies have shown that by taking a quality whey protein regularly, you can gain muscle, improve strength and lose body fat. By providing your body with high levels of protein coupled with essential amino acids, your body can readily repair and rebuild itself.
Choosing a high quality whey protein is extremely important. Avoiding artificial ingredients and harmful processing techniques is crucial in order to optimize the nutritional value of the supplement.
On its own, whey protein doesn’t taste great, which is why it is usually flavored with vanilla or chocolate. These flavored whey proteins are a great option, as long as they are flavored naturally. In fact, getting a good quality chocolate flavored whey can actually boost the antioxidant profile because of the natural cocoa.
Whey Protein Reviews
Integrated Supplements Whey Isolate Protein
Ingredients: Provon® Whey Protein Isolate, Non-GMO Lecithin
Our Review:
Hands down the highest quality whey protein we have come across. The ingredients above are for the unflavored option, but the flavored options use all natural ingredients and are a great choice as well.
Using a patented Cross Flow Microfiltration process, they ensure the nutritional value is left in tact. For such a high quality whey protein you would expect to pay quite a bit for it, but it is actually quite affordable. Our only problem with Integrated Supplements Whey Isolate Protein is that we didn’t come across it earlier.

NOW Foods Whey Protein Isolate
Ingredients: Microfiltered Whey Protein Isolate, Soy Lecithin
Our Review:
NOW Foods is a great brand name for many supplements, including their whey protein isolate. Pure ingredients and no artificial ingredients makes this a great choice if you are looking for a whey protein.
While we wouldn’t quite put it on par with the Integrated Supplements whey protein, this is a close second.

Optimum Nutrition Naturally Flavored 100% Whey Gold Standard
Ingredients: Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolates, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Peptides), Sugar, Natural Flavor, Lecithin, Xanthan Gum, Rebaudioside A, Lactase
Our Review:
Optimum Nutrition is a titan in the fitness supplements industry, they have a full and robust product line of good quality supplements. Their whey protein is no exception, it is a great choice despite the slightly longer ingredient list.
The Whey Gold Standard does contain sugar, but at least it is natural sugar and not an artificial sweetener like so many other brands use. Sure sugar is not great for our health, and moderation is essential to our health, it is far better to use sugar as a sweetener as oppose to the chemical alternatives.
